Terms of use
Last updated: 13 October 2026
These terms apply when you use Bristolians Market at www.bristoliansmarket.co.uk. By creating an account or using the site you agree to them. Please also read our privacy notice and prohibited items list, which form part of these terms.
1. Who we are
Bristolians Market is run by [Owner’s full name], a sole trader trading as Bristolians Market, at [Business postal address, Bristol]. Email: hello@bristoliansmarket.co.uk.
2. What we do, and what we do not
We provide a place for people in the Bristol area to advertise items, vehicles, property, jobs, services and community notices, and to message each other. Sales and agreements are made directly between users. We are not a party to them, we do not hold money, and we do not inspect items, vehicles or properties.
3. Your account
- You must be 18 or over and able to enter a contract under UK law.
- Give accurate details, keep your password private and tell us if you think someone else has used your account.
- One account per person. Businesses must say they are a trade seller.
- The name shown on your ads may be your first name or a nickname. It must not pretend to be us, another person or a business you do not represent.
4. Listings
- Describe what you offer honestly, with your own photos, a fair price and the right category.
- Only advertise things you are allowed to sell, and follow the extra rules for property, tickets, gas work and jobs.
- Do not put phone numbers, emails or links in the text, or post the same item more than once.
- Every new or changed listing is reviewed before it is published. We may refuse, edit the category of, or remove a listing that breaks these terms or the law, and we tell you why.
- Listings run for 30 days and can be renewed.
- You keep the rights to what you post. You give us a licence to show it on the site and in search results, and to use it to run and promote the site, until you remove it.
5. Messages and behaviour
Be polite and honest. Do not send spam, threats, abuse, or requests for payment outside a fair face-to-face sale. We may read reported messages to investigate them, and we screen content automatically for scams and banned items.
6. Trade sellers
If you sell as a business you must register as a trade seller and give your trading name. Buyers then have their full consumer rights against you, and you are responsible for meeting consumer law.
7. Paid adverts
Business adverts are labelled “Ad”, checked before they run and must follow the UK Code of Advertising (CAP Code). Prices and terms are agreed before booking.
8. When we may restrict your account
We may warn you, remove content, or suspend or close your account if you break these terms, if we suspect fraud, or to protect other users. We tell you the reason unless the law or a police investigation prevents it.
9. Reports, complaints and appeals
- Anyone can report a listing, user or message with the Report button.
- If we remove your content or restrict your account, you can appeal by replying to our email or writing to hello@bristoliansmarket.co.uk. A different member of the team reviews it and replies with the outcome.
- You can also complain to us about how we handle illegal content or reports, in the same way.
10. Our responsibility to you
- We work hard to keep the site safe and available, but we cannot promise it will always be free of faults or that every user is honest.
- We are not responsible for items, services, vehicles, properties or jobs advertised by users, or for what happens between users.
- Nothing in these terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else the law does not allow us to limit. Your statutory rights are not affected.
11. Closing your account
You can close your account at any time from your account page. Your ads come down at once, and your account is deleted 30 days later unless you sign in again before then. See the privacy notice for what we keep and why.
12. Changes and the law
We may update these terms and will tell you about important changes before they apply. These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales can hear any dispute.
